Busy therapists face many demands these days. Clients want (and deserve) effective treatment for complex problems. Insurance companies ask us to provide short-term treatment and to demonstrate “medical necessity.” Agencies want us to maintain a hefty caseload with high levels of client satisfaction. In addition, we’re expected to be knowledgeable about evidence-based treatment. Many therapists want to cope with these challenges by updating their skills and obtaining advanced clinical training but they need training that is flexible and focused on clinical practice. The Cleveland Center for Cognitive Therapy offers a variety of Continuing Education programs designed to meet the needs of today's practitioner. These range from brief workshops and seminars to a ten-month intensive training program in Cognitive Therapy.

Intensive Training in CBT That
You Can Complete on Your Own Schedule
Via Distance Education
Starting March, 2021
Behavioral Foundation Centers focuses specifically on services for children and their parents. Utilizing a combination of Discrete Trial Training and Natural Environment Training, programs focus on quickly reducing problem behaviors and building foundational skills necessary for children to be able to be successful in mainstream, integrated environments.
The Clinical Practice of Cognitive Therapy is an intensive training program designed to meet the needs of practicing professionals in Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work and Counseling. It consists of a sequence of four seminars, totaling 69.5 contact hours, which are offered over a period of ten months. The seminars cover both the basic principles of Cognitive Therapy and the application of these principles in complex clinical situations. Like a podcast, you can listen to the audio when convenient. Unlike a podcast, the audio is integrated with readings, online video and resources, experiential exercises, and an online discussion forum to provide in-depth training in CBT. You can complete the program on your own timetable and take longer than the 10 months if you prefer.
Your board may well accept this program without additional paperwork since we are approved by APA, NASW, NBCC, and NAADAC.

In-Service Training
Our staff can design in-service training programs tailored to the needs of a particular organization. Programs which we have presented range from brief didactic presentations to extended training programs which include experiential exercises, case consultation, and planned follow-up. Topics have included principles of short-term counseling, Cognitive Therapy of depression, outpatient treatment of substance abuse, and dealing with borderline personality disorder. Consultation in Cognitive Therapy
We offer both individual and group consultation to mental health professionals. Consultation can be scheduled a single session at a time or can be scheduled on a weekly or monthly basis. Consultation sessions can be general case consultation or can focus on specific topics or issues that are of interest to you. We also offer consultation in the form of a 'second opinion' in which we conduct an evaluation and provide treatment recommendations for a client for whom you will continue to provide treatment. For more information contact James Pretzer, Ph.D. (ClinicalPracticeofCT@gmail.com).
Custom-Designed Distance Education
If your organization wishes to offer distance education programs via Internet, intranet, or video-conferencing, we can develop such programs for you or can provide consultation regarding the design and implementation of such programs. For more information contact James Pretzer, Ph.D. (ClinicalPracticeofCT@gmail.com)
The Center for Cognitive Therapy can come to you!
Having the Cleveland Center for Cognitive Therapy present a training program at your location may be more affordable than you expect. If your group, agency, or organization has 20 professionals interested in attending the program, it may well be less expensive to have us come to you than to have each person travel to continuing education programs separately.
If you are interested in sponsoring a workshop which is open to members of the mental health community, the registration fees you receive may well cover the cost of the workshop as well as providing your organization with valuable publicity. We will be happy to provide advice on organizing and publicizing workshops for mental health professionals. For more information contact James Pretzer, Ph.D. ( ClinicalPracticeofCT@gmail.com ).
