Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of behavioral therapy that teaches specific skills to help patients manage emotions, communicate with others, handle stressful experiences and be more mindful of their thoughts, feelings and environment. Though it was originally designed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and self-harming behaviors, DBT is an evidence-based treatment for.

CEBTOhio is offering a DBT Skills Training Group to help individuals build skills and habits to identify, understand and effectively manage their emotions. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) breaks down these helpful skills into the following modules:

  1. Capability Enhancement focuses on increasing behavioral and self regulation. All patients in DBT receive psycho-educational skills training in five areas: mindfulness (to improve control of attention and the mind), interpersonal skills and conflict management, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and self management.

Skills groups are formatted like a class, in which group leaders use a combination of lectures, discussions and practices to teach the skills.
